Forecast Discussion — the forecaster's reasoning
458 WTPZ42 KNHC 300232 TCDEP2 Remnants Of Polo Discussion Number 38 NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL EP172026 800 PM MST Tue Sep 29 2026 Satellite images and surface observations indicate that Polo has dissipated over the rugged terrain of northwestern Mexico, and this is the last NHC advisory. However, the remnants of Polo are still producing areas of heavy rain and gusty winds over portions of northwestern Mexico and the southwestern U.S. The initial intensity is estimated to be around 30 kt. The remnant trough is forecast to continue to weaken, but the associated moisture will likely produce heavy rainfall and flooding across the Southwest U.S. and the Southern High Plains tonight and Wednesday morning. Transit counts are gate-line crossings computed hourly from ChartNav's own live AIS network (terrestrial receivers; coverage varies by zone — the coverage figure above says how complete the picture is, and reporting gaps are only flagged for vessels that were underway and stopped reporting globally). Baselines are rolling medians of complete days. Numbers may differ from weekly satellite-AIS datasets such as IMF PortWatch, which lag by several days but see areas terrestrial receivers cannot.
