Cookie Policy
1. First-Party Cookies
ChartNav sets one first-party cookie: cn_session, an HTTP-only, Secure authentication cookie created when you sign in on the web. It keeps you signed in for up to 60 days and is strictly necessary for account features (sync, purchases, profile). It is deleted when you sign out. No cookies are used for analytics, advertising, or tracking.
2. Local Storage
ChartNav uses the browser localStorage API to persist user preferences and functionality on your device. This is technically distinct from cookies but serves a similar purpose. Stored data includes:
- Fleet selections — MMSI identifiers of vessels added to your fleet
- Fleet notes — user-entered notes associated with fleet vessels
- Interface preferences — display settings and UI state
For signed-out users this data stays entirely on your device. If you sign in, the content you save (marks, routes, tracks, fleet, preferences, boat profile) also syncs to your ChartNav account so it follows you across devices — see the Privacy Policy for details and how to delete it.
3. Third-Party Cookies and Requests
The Service loads resources from external providers during normal operation. These providers may set their own cookies or collect usage data in accordance with their own policies:
- Google Fonts (
fonts.googleapis.com,fonts.gstatic.com) — typeface delivery - Carto (
basemaps.cartocdn.com) — map tile imagery - unpkg (
unpkg.com) — open-source library CDN (MapLibre GL) - Wikimedia (
commons.wikimedia.org) — vessel photographs
When your browser requests resources from these services, your IP address and standard HTTP headers are transmitted to their servers. ChartNav does not control the cookie or data collection practices of third-party providers.
4. Managing Stored Data
You can remove all locally stored ChartNav data through your browser's site data settings:
- Chrome — Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > View permissions and data stored across sites
- Firefox — Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Manage Data
- Safari — Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data
5. Changes to This Policy
